Lighten Your Backpack Load

!±8± Lighten Your Backpack Load

One of the first problems you will encounter when you start backpacking is too heavy a load. A heavy pack can wreak havoc on your back and legs. One of the best ways to lighten the load is to pack gear that has a multiple use. You can eliminate one or more other items that way and give yourself a much more pleasant hike.

There are several different pieces of gear that will do multiple uses for you, eliminating some others.

Use Duct tape: Probably the most versatile item you can carry. It can be used for repairing things, to fasten a bandage, as insulation for your coffee cup and a whole lot more.

Candles: They are very lightweight and can be used as a fire-starter and you can use the melted wax for sealing things.

Safety pins: Also very lightweight and small. Can be used for fish hooks, fastening bandages, clothespins and again many more things.

Parachute chord: You can use this to hang your food, make a clothesline, tie a splint in place and more.

Placemats: Use these to make your food on, sit on, put your shoes on to keep your tent clean and more.

As you can see these are just a few items that you can use for multiple purposes. Once you start putting your gear together think a little outside the box. Think of ways that you can use it more than what it was made for. You will be surprised at what you come up with.
